PORTLAND SPACES MAGAZINE PRESENTS THE FIRST ROOT AWARDS: PORTLAND DESIGN FROM THE GROUND UP! Click here to view the PDF of this contest.
Architects, interior designers, contractors, landscape designers, craftspeople, and innovators who work in greater metropolitan Portland are invited to submit their best work of the last three years in more than 20 categories, ranging from houses and individual rooms to commercial offices and restaurant interiors. A jury of nationally renowned design and building professionals will judge the entries. Portland Spaces will honor the winners at a party and feature them in the November/ December 2008 issue.
The competition will be open for submissions from May 12 to July 14, 2008. Submitting is easy:
Send us a 500-word description of the project, up to eight high-resolution images, and a $50 fee per entry (with discounts for early and/or multiple submissions). The entry form and complete instructions are available at www.portlandspaces.net/designawards
Nominations also will be accepted in four special categories: The Masters; Rising Stars; Portland, World (for exported design); and Sustainability.
In addition to celebrating the incredible design work being produced in the Portland metro area, the Root Awards will benefit a new college scholarship fund that will provide cash awards to top local students in the fields of design and construction.

The kitchen is an incredible room. Just like living rooms of the past, the kitchen is where the day begins and where the day ends. They are designed to be stylish, while remaining extremely functional. For these forward thinking rooms, we want to reward the minds behind the designs. The Grand Prize winner will receive an trip to the 2008 KBIS Show in Chicago as well as , an all expenses paid trip for 2 to Sweden! The ASKO Incredible Dishwasher Design Contest is open to all design professionals, architects, and builders. Up to 13 semi-finalists will be rewarded with a trip to Chicago for the 2008 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, April 11 - 13, 2008. While in Chicago, winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded.
Participation in the ASKO Incredible Dishwasher Design Contest is simple - no entry fees or detailed entry forms to complicate things.
